The city of Wichita may be working on plans to change trash collection and recycling procedures, but, for now, we do still have a contract with Waste Connections for a reduced price for trash collection and optional recycling. The Bradford contract with Waste Connections Was established in 2011 and runs through 2015. The price is $47.37 for 3 months of service. Recycling services are also available for $11.25 for 3 months.

The Bradford contract guarantees this price for the first two years of service, 2011 and 2012. None of the last three years of the five year contract may increase the price by more than 2% annually. That has not changed, even though you may have noticed a small increase on your Waste Connections bills.

The contract allows for a fuel surcharge when the cost of diesel fuel exceeds $3.00 a gallon for any part of a billing cycle. This fuel surcharge will continue as long as the diesel fuel costs more than $3.00 a gallon, and does NOT technically constitute an increase in trash collection or recycling fees . It is a temporary surcharge imposed only when the price of diesel fuel exceeds the $3.00 limit imposed by the contract. It will be removed for any billing cycle where the price of diesel fuel drops below $3.00 per gallon.

Taking care of the lakes and commons takes a lot of work and not just from the landscaping/mowing company. Below are some tips for keeping our lakes clean and can also help with common areas.

Pick up after your pets.

Use commercial car washes. They are more efficient and have mud traps that catch oil and sediment.

Maintain your vehicles so that there are no leaks of automotive fluids such as oil, antifreeze and fuels.

When working on the lawn or in the garden:

*Follow the label directions on insecticides very carefully.
*Use compost and natural fertilizers pesticides when you can.
*Use slow release fertilizers
*Pull weeds by hand as an alternative to chemicals.
*Don’t apply products if rain is predicted.

Pet waste has recently been a complaint in several areas around the neighborhood. There are common areas between neighborhoods where people are allowing their pets to run free and not picking up after them. These areas are used by children and families to play. Please be courteous and clean up after all pets.

The entrances have also seen a lot of trash and debris that needs to be picked up. Cleaning up these areas is everyone’s responsibility. Help keep Bradford Beautiful!
